Tales of Old Newport, Wheatsheaf, 11/05/26

Always up for trying something a little different, I’ve reserved the small side room at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, in Newport, Isle of Wight, for the evening of Monday, May 11th, 2026, to tell a few tales of old Newport (which is to say, tales predominantly from the first half of the nineteenth century; although who knows, we could end up anywhere!).

Tales will be from half seven till nine, probably with a short break in the interval, because the deal is: I hope to get folk into the room to hear some tales, the bar hope to make their money back by selling anyone who turns up at least a couple of drinks each… I’m not selling tickets for this event, but a hat will be passed round (and if you don’t do cash, I can take card payments). There will also be merch if you’d rather exchange cash for something tangible…

I had been hoping to have a storynotes booklet to complement some of the tales but I’ve run out of time, so that’ll have to wait till another day. I will have copies of some of my other Island storynotes, though, at a far better price than you can get them on Amazon…
